Newborn: Baby E

I write this post in silence. Well, minus the air conditioning’s (loud) whisper, the fridge’s humming, the dog licking her paws, and the house creaking when the wind blows. Finally, a comfortable day in NOVA, when the temperature has not risen to 80, in late September.

These photos of Baby E were taken and processed to a diverse soundtrack (musical and otherwise — though, can’t everything be seen as musical?), but when I send galleries off to my clients, I like some space sometimes, to think about how the session made me feel (so that I can write to you about it).

Baby E’s mom and dad both knew her so well, already, just 8 days in. Big brother E pointed at her and said, “baby sheesh!” You know how wonderful it is to be just enveloped with love? Baby E, 8 days old, knows, too. Mama Heather and I talked about my coming to the hospital to photograph the moment that big brother E and baby E were to meet for the first time. Instead, we reconnected after they settled together back at home. I headed to Bristow, VA on a warm Saturday, and, to the music of big brother E’s drumming with “ru ru” (a ruler), and the meditative sounds of Man of No Ego (which dad Brian listens to to focus for work), I photographed these sweet moments. Photography is therapy, you know. Well. For me.

Listen to the gaps
Between the words
Listen to the emptiness
Between the lines
Listen to me not what I say
Then an understanding will arise
And suddenly like a flash of lightning
You will be able to see me
And the original that is right now happening before you. ~Man of No Ego
