Fairfax, VA Newborn Session: Baby N

This babe was born the night the Caps won the Stanley Cup. She was already present (but nobody knew!) the last time I photographed this awesome family, and I can’t thank the stars enough for clients who invite me to photograph their family’s growth.

Baby N’s big brother was the perfect crescendo to every lull, and isn’t that the beauty of having a fuller home? If we needed to pump him up for a photo, he would yell all the things he was loving at that moment. “Sno cones! Go Caps! Wreck It Ralph!” Ugh my heart. Parenting a toddler is so challenging but seriously just so heartwarming. <3

This family gave me a heads up on a couple of portraits they wanted to try to get: The fam in their Caps gear, obvs. And. Perhaps in addition to a portrait of Baby N in a basket, a portrait of her in a slow cooker, as a nod to her daddy’s love for cooking (don’t worry, it wasn’t plugged in, and we padded the heck out of it, and mom/dad were spotting her always). And the rest of the time? We just hung. out. Which is my favorite. I got to hear about a long-ago-pre-kids trip to Ireland, thanks to a black and white photo of a lighthouse on the wall. And the best part was just talking about parenthood. And a close second was embracing the lulls when we waited for N to settle for a photo.

I love the unique feeling of a quiet home in the weeks following the arrival of a new family member, even if it’s only for seconds.

Thanks, sweet family.
